Does it work on Mac and Windows?
Yes — JD Document Forge runs on both macOS and Windows 11, fully tested in active daily practice. Both versions are code-signed and macOS version is Apple-notarized.
How do I download and install JD Document Forge?
After you purchase or start your 14-day free trial, you'll receive a download link. On Mac, download the disk image (.dmg file), open it, and drag the JD Document Forge icon onto the Applications folder shown in the window, then launch it. On Windows, download the setup installer (.exe file) and double-click it — it installs in a couple of clicks with no administrator rights needed, and adds JD Document Forge to your desktop. When installing on Windows, you may see a Windows Defender SmartScreen prompt even though the software is digitally signed by Microsoft. This is because the software is new and this is normal. You should click More info → Run anyway — and the publisher will show as JD Document Forge LLC, which is your confirmation that the software is authentic.
Where will I find my files and the user manual?
The first time you open JD Document Forge, it creates a JD Document Forge folder inside your Documents folder. There you'll find your User Manual, a "Parties & Signature Block Templates" folder of ready-to-use reference language to copy from, and — as you work — Templates and Configuration folders holding the Word templates and practice-area variable files you create. Documents you generate are saved in a Generated_Docs folder there, organized into subfolders by client, matter, matter type, and date.
Do I need Microsoft Word?
Yes. Word is required for document generation. A Microsoft 365 subscription with desktop apps installed is fine — the desktop versions of Word and Excel are what matter. Excel is used in the background.
Do I need an internet connection?
No — and that's a feature. JD Document Forge works completely offline. No logging in, no connectivity issues, no waiting. It runs whether you're in the office, in a conference room, or traveling.
Is my client data uploaded to the cloud?
Never. Everything runs on your computer. Client information, templates, and generated documents stay on your machine or your firm's private network — period.
Can I use my own existing document templates?
Yes — that's the whole point. You tag your existing Word documents using The Forge's Template Builder, add them to a practice area, and they become fully automated. Your forms, your formatting, your way.
What does the free trial include?

What template packs are included?
Every license includes a library of standard variable lists for contracts, real estate transactions, employment documents, and more, that will turbo-charge your template builds. In addition, you'll receive Word files with the two most common Word provisions that use conditional logic (the first paragraph of every agreement and signature blocks for multiple conditional parties and, if appropriate, entity information), all formatted and ready to use in your new Word templates.

How do I uninstall JD Document Forge?
We make removal easy. On Windows, open your Settings, go to Apps > Installed Apps, locate JD Document Forge, and click "Uninstall." On Mac, simply open your Applications folder and drag the JD Document Forge icon to the Trash. The program leaves no hidden background processes running on your system.
